Subordination is a type of sentence structure where one clause (the subordinate clause) is dependent on another clause (the main clause) in a sentence. Complex sentences are made up of a main clause and one or more subordinate clauses. Subordinate clauses begin with subordinating conjunctions like because, although, if, when, and since. These conjunctions introduce a clause that depends on the main clause to make sense.
